City government offices will be open but not General District Court; here's a rundown of key entities.

FAIRFAX, VA — Columbus Day is that relatively odd holiday during which most traditional closings are the norm — unless they're not.

Here's a brief rundown of what's open and what's not Monday in Fairfax:


Banks: Most banks are closed but check with your financial institution to be sure.

Financial markets: U.S. markets open.

Government offices: City government offices will be open, and services will be provided as usual. However, General District Court will be closed. Information: 703-385-7866.

Mail: No mail. Post offices are closed.

Schools: Closed.

Trash collection: City trash pickup will be on a regular schedule. Other municipal and private haulers may work on a different schedule.
