FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Fairfax City Council member Sang Yi announced on Wednesday that he was running in the Nov. 8 general election to be city's next mayor.

"I'm looking forward to bringing our vision for the city to the voters in November," Sang told Patch. "If elected, we will make history as the City of Fairfax's first ever immigrant and person of color to serve as its mayor."

Sang will be running against Catherine Read. Mayor Daniel Meyer previously announced that he wouldn't be running for reelection.

Prior to being elected to the city council, Sang was the city's representative on the Fairfax Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP) Policy Board. He also served as the 2nd vice commander of American Legion Post 177 and was the president of his homeowners association.

Since the Fairfax City Council does not have split terms, all six seats will be up for grabs in November. Incumbents Joseph Harmon, So Lim, Tom Ross and Jon Stehle Jr. will be running against Billy Bates, Kate Doyle-Feingold, Jeff Greenfield, Anahita Renner, and Craig Salewski.
