Deadline Approaching for Dog Licenses

Owners in Fairfax City must get pets licensed and vaccinated against rabies.

If you live in Fairfax City and own a dog, make sure your pooch is legal!

The city government has announced that dog license bills are due by this Saturday, Jan. 31. Licenses are available through Friday at the Treasurer’s Office (Room 234) in City Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Dog licenses are available for $5 per year for spayed or neutered dogs and $10 per year for unaltered dogs.

All dogs four months and older in Fairfax City must be licensed and vaccinated against rabies, according to the city’s website. Dogs moving into the city must be licensed as soon as possible, preferably within 30 days.

To obtain a license, owners must present a valid rabies certificate every year for each dog. If the dog has been neutered or spayed, a certificate from the dog’s veterinarian is required (first-time licenses only). Multiyear dog tags are also available. The multiyear tag cannot exceed the rabies expiration date.

For more information, call the Treasurer’s Office at (703) 385-7900.
