Drivers Should Expect Route 123 Closure Aug. 6

Drivers should anticipate lane closures Aug. 6 and in September through December for the Route 123 sidewalk project.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Drivers should anticipate lane closures Aug. 6 and again in September through December as the city continues to work on the Route 123 sidewalk project. The closures will affect access to Route 123/Chain Bridge Road in the Rust Curve sidewalk project area.

While Washington Gas connects gas lines across Route 123, the following roads will be impacted:

  • Route 123 (NB and SB) from Kenmore Drive to Whitehead Street: closed
  • Route 123 (NB and SB) from Whitehead Street to North Street: flaggers will be on-site controlling traffic
  • Access to Old Town Village parking garage will be available from northbound Route 123.

The city anticipates construction of the retaining wall on the west side of Route 123 to begin in September and last through December. Drivers will be directed through the area intermittently by flaggers. Traffic may be stopped for periods of five to 10 minutes during work hours. The city noted that dates and times are subject to change.
