FAIRFAX CITY, VA —It's going to be a busy year for elections in the City of Fairfax. Along with citywide elections, residents will get to vote in party primaries and congressional and presidential elections. Starting today, for example, in-person absentee voting begins in the Democratic primary in Virginia for president.

Here's a list of dates to remember for 2020 elections, including deadlines for registering to vote.

Jan. 17 — In-person absentee voting begins for the Democratic presidential primary. Voting hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding holidays, in the Registar's office at 10455 Armstrong St. in Fairfax.

Feb. 10 — Last day to register or update registration to participate in the March 3 Democratic presidential primary.

Feb. 29 — Last day to absentee vote in person for the Democratic presidential primary at the Registar's office at 10455 Armstrong St. in Fairfax.

March 3 — Election Day polls for Democratic presidential primary open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

* The Virginia Republican Party has chosen to cancel its presidential primary for 2020 and choose delegates for the party's presidential convention at a state convention.

April 13 — Last day to register to vote or update registration and participate in the May 5 general election in the City of Fairfax for mayor, city council and school board.

May 5 — Election Day polls open for mayor, city council and city school board from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

May 18 — Last day to register to vote or update registration and participate in June 9 primary elections for congressional and other primaries.

June 9 — Election Day polls for primaries for offices of U.S Senate, U.S. House (11th District) open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Oct. 12 — Last day to register to vote or update registration and participate in the Nov. 3 general election for president and other federal offices.

Oct. 27 — Deadline to request an absentee ballot to be mailed to you for Nov. 3 elections.

Nov. 3 — Election Day polls for U.S. president and vice president, U.S. Senate and U.S House (11th District) open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
