Repairs To Damaged Gas Line Underway; I-50 West In Fairfax Closed
Drivers are advised to avoid Fairfax Boulevard west of Fairfax City near Waples Mill Road due to a damaged gas line, according to VDOT

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Fairfax County Fire & Rescue units were on the scene around 3:20 p.m., on Monday responding to a Hazmat incident at Waples Mill Road and Fairfax Boulevard/Route 50, according to a post on the Department's official Twitter account. Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes.
Gas was reported leaking from a 6-inch line that was struck by construction equipment, according to FCFFRD. Washington Gas personnel are on the scene. Fire units expect to remain at the site of the leak for another two-six hours.
Construction equipment struck a gas line at Fairfax Boulevard/Route 50, according to a Fairfax County Police Department release. All westbound lanes of Route 50 are closed at Jermantown Road. Southbound Waples Mill Road is also closed at Pender Drive.
