The City of Fairfax, Va., has begun a comprehensive housing assessment, with the goal to recommend future housing policies to City Council. The assessment will take a wide-ranging look at recent housing trends and development patterns and provide the foundation for a strategy to build the types of housing most in demand for a full range of incomes and households.

City staff want to hear what residents value and envision. There are several opportunities for residents to participate in the process. Two community engagement sessions are slated for early November, and the project team will conduct a survey this winter.

6:30-8:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2 and Thursday, Nov. 3 at the Stacy C. Sherwood Community Center, 3740 Old Lee Highway.

Residents who would like to attend one of these sessions are requested to register at https://arcg.is/4Oq9D. Space is limited.

The city’s comprehensive plan recommends conducting this type of housing assessment to identify housing needs that support growing sectors of the local economy. The city has engaged Thomas P. Miller & Associates to conduct the housing assessment and to gather community perspectives.
