Fairfax City Candidate Event Hosted By Chamber, League Of Women Voters

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce and the League of Women Voters of the Fairfax Area are hosting a free, non-partisan meet and greet event for the upcoming Nov. 8 election in the City of Fairfax.

This informal event will take place from 7-8:30 p.m., on Sept 28, at the American Legion Post #177, which is located at 3939 Oak St.

At the meet and greet, Fairfax City voters will have the opportunity to meet the candidates running in the following races:

Mayor

City Council (Six Seats)

School Board (Five Seats)

  • Amit S. Hickman
  • Carolyn S. Pitches (incumbent)
  • Rachel M. McQuillen
  • Sarah M. Kelsey
  • Stacy R. Hall

Due to the large number of candidates, there will be no debates held during the Sept. 28 event and only those running in the mayoral and city council races will be giving formal statements.

Here is a tentative schedule:

  • Welcome: 7 p.m.
  • Candidate Statements: 7:05-7:35 p.m. - Each mayoral and the city council candidate will each be given 2 minutes to give a statement. School Board candidates will not be giving statements.
  • Meet & Greet: 7:40-8:30 p.m. - Candidates will be stationed around the venue and available to engage directly with citizens of Fairfax. Proxies will not be allowed during the candidate engagement session.
  • Event Ends: 8:30 p.m.

In-person early voting for the Nov. 8 election runs from Sept. 23-Nov. 5 at City Hall, which is located at 10455 Armstrong St. The deadline to register for the Nov. 8 general election is 5 p.m. (in person) and 11:59 p.m. (online) on Oct. 17. Voters seeking to vote by mail must request a mailed ballot by 5 p.m., on Oct. 28. More information about the 2022 election is available on the city's website.

Literature will be available from all of the candidates at the event. LWVFA will provide non-partisan information about the election. City residents will be able to pick up voter registration forms, and requests for absentee ballots will be available for attendees.

In addition to the chamber and LWVFA, the Sept. 28 meet and greet is also hosted by: American Legion Post #177; Asian American Chamber of Commerce; Fairfax Citizens for Smarter Growth; Faith Alliance Climate Solutions; National Council of Negro Women; Northern Virginia Black Chamber of Commerce; and NOVA Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
