Fairfax City Officials Cancel Indepence Day Parade Due To 'Extreme Heat'
The museum's open house/lawn party has also been canceled, but the evening show will go on as planned, officials say.
FAIRFAX, VA — The Independence Day Parade and the Fairfax Museum's open house/lawn party have been canceled due to the extreme heat, officials announced on the city's website Friday.
Officials cited attendee and staff safety as their priority.
The evening show remains on with plans for the gates to open 7:30 p.m.. The show starts 8 p.m., and a fireworks display will be around 9:30 p.m.

Shuttle service begins at 7 p.m. from GMU's Rappahannock River Parking Deck and Woodson High School.
