Fairfax City residents who seek residential rent relief due to COVID-19 may apply for assistance through the Virginia Rental Relief Program.

The Virginia Relief Program (RRP) is designed to support and ensure housing stability across the commonwealth during the coronavirus pandemic. Depending on availability of funds and household need, the RRP may provide financial assistance for rent payments for eligible households.

This includes financial assistance for rent payments past due beginning April 1, 2020 and onward, with opportunity for renewal based on availability of funding and the household’s need for additional assistance and continued eligibility.

Who is eligible for assistance?

  • A resident’s gross household income is 80 percent or below AMI (area medium income).
  • Monthly rental amount does not exceed 150 percent of Fair Market Rent rate.
  • Resident must demonstrate an inability to make rental payments due to COVID-19.
  • Resident has valid lease in their name or other documentation confirming the landlord-tenant relationship.
  • Either the landlord or resident can initiate the request for assistance.

Please note: this assistance does NOT include assistance for mortgage payments.
