When Does School Start In Fairfax City? Key 2026-27 Dates
Fairfax City schools begin Aug. 24. See holidays, breaks, early-release days and other key dates for the 2026-27 year.
Although City of Fairfax Schools has its own school board and owns its four schools, it has an agreement with Fairfax County Public Schools to manage and operate the city's schools, hire staff, and develop curriculum.
FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Students attending City of Fairfax Schools will return to classrooms Monday, Aug. 24, for the first day of the 2026-27 school year.
Before classes begin, new teacher training is scheduled for Aug. 10-13. Professional workdays for staff will follow Aug. 14 and Aug. 17-21.

The calendar includes Thanksgiving break from Nov. 25-27, winter break from Dec. 21 through Jan. 3 and spring break from March 22-26. The final day of school will be June 16, with an early-release schedule.
