Fairfax College Students Honored For Academic Achievements
Patch highlights the honors received by Fairfax students from their college or university.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — To shine a light on the academic achievements of college students from the Fairfax City area, Patch shares information provided by the students' families and Merit News.
The following students were among the nearly 300 incoming students who participated in summer orientation 2022 in June at Bob Jones University in located in Greenville, South Carolina:
- Kendra Smith, a resident of Fairfax, plans to major in Spanish education, BS, this fall.
- Twila Smith, a resident of Fairfax, plans to major in history, BA, this fall.
The following students earned dean's list honors during the spring 2022 semester at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia:

- Regan Tate of Fairfax
- Jessica Willebeek-LeMair of Fairfax
To attain this distinction, students must earn at least a 3.5 average on a 4.0 grading scale.
Vinay Gadde of Fairfax was named to Shenandoah University's Athletic Director's List for the spring 2022 semester. To qualify for the honor, student-athletes must have a semester GPA of at least 3.0. SU had 346 student-athletes earn athletic director's list honors for the spring 2022 semester.

Justine Jonathan of Fairfax was named to the dean's list at the University of New Hampshire for earning honors for the spring 2022 semester. Jonathan is majoring in analytical economics. Students whose grade point average is 3.5 through 3.64 are awarded honors at UMH.
Allanah Wood of Fairfax was named to the dean's list for the spring 2022 semester at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York. To be named to the dean's list, a student must have carried throughout the semester a course load of four or more graded credits with an average of 3.5 or above. Wood, a May graduate, majored in chemistry at Hamilton.
Chaitanya Srinivasa Reddy Karri of Fairfax completed their master of science in information technology in July at the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky.
Ethan Phan of Fairfax earned the distinction of faculty honors for spring 2022 at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia. This designation is awarded to undergraduate students who have earned a 4.0 academic average for the semester.
Mya Parker of Fairfax graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science in psychology from Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas. Parker was among more than 800 students who received degrees at ACU's May Commencement. Students whose GPAs are at least 3.9 graduate summa cum laude (with highest honor).
The following students were named to the dean's list for the spring 2022 semester at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York:

- Riley Rhoder of Fairfax
Paulina Fournier of Fairfax graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a BS in ASL-English interpretation. Some 4,300 degrees were conferred in the 2021-2022 academic year at all of RIT's campuses. RIT's 137th academic convocation celebration was held in May and featured remarks by Kimberly Bryant, founder of the nonprofit organization Black Girls CODE.
Hannah Polk of Fairfax recently received a bachelor of science degree in music from Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Maryland, during its 160th commencement ceremonies. FSU President Dr. Ronald Nowaczyk conferred nearly 700 undergraduate and graduate degrees at this May commencement.
Hunter Hoopes of Fairfax was among the 132 student-athletes at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to be named to the Southeastern Conferecnce Spring Academic Honor Roll. To earn a place on the honor roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.0 or better grade point average for either the preceding academic year or their career and be a sophomore or better in academic standing. Hoopes is a member of Alabama's baseball team and is studying human environmental science.
The following students earned dean's list honors for the spring 2022 semester at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts:
- Sam Littman of Fairfax, class of 2025
- Eric Lundgren of Fairfax, class of 2025
- Caroline Stephens of Fairfax, class of 2025
Dean's list honors at Tufts University requires a semester grade point average of 3.4 or greater.
More than 9,300 University of Maryland Global Campus students were named to the dean's list for the spring semester, including:
- Gene Dizon, Fairfax
- Daniel Garcia, Fairfax
- Alexandra Hevia, Fairfax
- Bobae Jessica Lee, Fairfax
- Amy Noonberg, Fairfax
- Claudia Petty, Fairfax
To be eligible for the honor, a student must complete at least six credits during the term, earned a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the term, and maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 at UMGC.
Missouri State University awarded 2,878 degrees to students in spring 2022 during May 20 commencement ceremonies at Great Southern Bank Arena. The following local students earned degrees:
- Jeevan Basnet of Fairfax graduated with a master of business administration.
- David Guenni of Fairfax graduated with a master of science, defense and strategic studies.
