Fairfax Connector: Union Members to Stage Protest Rally Sunday in Fairfax

Their beef is both with the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and county contractor MV Transportation over a retirement plan and pay.

FAIRFAX, VA — Members of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1764 plan to hold a rally Sunday to protest what they view as unfair labor practices.

The rally, which will include a march, will be held 1 p.m. at Old Town Square, 10415 North Street.

ATU Local 1764 represents more than 500 Fairfax Connector bus drivers and mechanics.

The union says its beef is both with the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and county contractor MV Transportation.

According to ATU members, MV Transportation hasn't returned compensation the workers say they forfeited to help created a retirement plan that "never materialized."

They say they have taken their beef to Fairfax County Board of Supervisors chairman Sharon Bulova but have not heard much in the way of feedback.

"We delivered a very clear message to Chairman Bulova earlier this month, both by letter and in person, and we've only heard crickets," said ATU Local 1764 trustee Sesil Rubain in a release. "It's quite clear that the Supervisors are embarrassed and hoping they can hide all winter.

"We've got bad news for them: these members aren't afraid of the cold. They're going to go into every district, every bus stop and rail station in the county and let the public know what's happening."
