Fairfax High School Hosts 'Academy Awards'
Second-year students' work displayed, awards and displays abound.
Fairfax High School rolled out the red carpet Thursday night for friends and family of students in the Fairfax Academy for Communications and the Arts. The event showcased second-year students' art from photography to fashion to music to video production. The Korean Club and Chinese Club also had prominent displays highlighting their cultural heritage.
The showcase is a way to learn more about the Academy programs offered and the work done by the students. “Each teacher has a display showing off second-year students’ signature projects," said Academy instructor Randy Jacobson. "This is a big end-of-year celebration.”
After the showcase, students walked the red carpet into the Academy Awards where they dressed up and were interviewed. The fun continued as Emmy Award winning broadcaster Mike Walter served as emcee for the evening and awards were handed out in each program area in addition to scholarships presented.
