The Feb. 7 special election will decide a replacement for Scott Silverthorne, arrested in August during a sex-for-meth sting operation.

FAIRFAX, VA — The city's three candidates for mayor — council members Michael J. DeMarco, David L. Meyer and Eleanor D. "Ellie" Smith will gather for a couple of forums next month ahead of the Feb. 7 special election.
- The first is scheduled for Jan. 9 from 7-9 p.m. at the Fairfax Regional Library, 10360 North Street, and is being held by the League of Women Voters of the Fairfax Area Education Fund.
- The second is scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 19 at Old Town Hall, 3999 University Drive, and is being held by the Fairfax Homeowners' Association.
Steven Stombres has been the acting mayor following the arrest of then-mayor Scott Silverthorne last August on sex-for-meth charges.
