Fairfax Mayor Election Approved for Feb. 7

Circuit court approves election schedule. Scott Silverthorne resigned after being arrested in a meth-for-sex sting operation.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — The Fairfax County Circuit Court has approved the city's plan to hold a special mayoral election Feb. 7.

The election is the result of the resignation this month of former mayor Scott Silverthorne, who was arrested Aug. 4 on charges that he offered undercover detectives meth in exchange for sex at a Tysons Corner hotel.

Former three-term Fairfax City Council member Steve Stombres was named the city's interim mayor last Tuesday after a unanimous voted by city council members.
