FAIRFAX, VA — BedHead PJ’s will open its first store outside New York City on Saturday, in Fairfax’s Mosaic District.

The 850-square-foot boutique, located at 2910 District Ave., Suite 155, will be the sleepwear company’s second brick-and-mortar location. The store will operate daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to a company announcement.

Customers visiting on opening day can use a custom monogramming station from 1 to 3 p.m. The store will carry pajamas for women, men and children, along with sleepwear for dogs and merchandise from other brands.

From Pop-Up Plan To Permanent Store

BedHead had considered opening stores in several markets, including Texas, California, Tennessee, the Carolinas, Florida, Washington, D.C., and Boston, brand manager Michelle Barresi said in an interview.

The company originally viewed Mosaic District as a possible location for a temporary pop-up. That plan changed when company representatives visited the development.

“When we got out of the car, both me and my boss were like, ‘No, we need a full store here,’” Barresi said. “This is a great location. This is what we need to do.”

Eight months later, the permanent store was preparing to open.

Barresi said Mosaic District’s combination of housing, restaurants, shops and entertainment made it a good match for the brand. The mixed-use development gives customers several reasons to visit the area, she said.

“Nobody goes out and says, ‘I need a new pair of pajamas,’” Barresi said. “We need a place that has a community, and then that community brings us more customers.”

Pajamas For Families — And Dogs

The store’s children’s pajamas will range from size 2T through size 12. Women’s sizes will run from XXS through 3X, and the store will also offer men’s pajamas.

The family-oriented selection can accommodate customers looking for coordinated holiday photos or matching sleepwear, Barresi said. Dogs will not be left out, with pet sleepwear also among the store’s offerings.

In addition to pajamas, shoppers will find accessories and other merchandise, including hair clips, umbrellas and small potted plants.

Barresi described the boutique as a “little jewel box” intended to offer shoppers “a little bit of surprise and whimsy.”

BedHead PJ’s currently operates one other store in New York City.
