GALLERY: Lange Grabs Title in 10th Round By Knockout
Fairfax City fighter TKOs opponent in third round.
With 22 seconds left in the 10th and final round and both fighters tired and bloodied after an epic battle, Jimmy Lange knocked out his opponent to win a U.S. title belt Saturday at the Patriot Center.
D.C.-area fan favorite Lange secured the North American Boxing Association super welterweight title over Joe Wyatt.
Todd "White Lightning" Wilson, who hails from Fairfax City, entered Saturday night's bout with a perfect record at 8-0. His opponent, Corey "Bad Boy" Goodwin of Columbia SC, entered the fight with a decent 7-5 record with four knockouts.
The fight was lopsided from the very beginning. Wilson took control with strong body shots and left hooks. Goodwin deserved credit as he was able to handle a barrage of aggressive combinations from Wilson in the early rounds. However, Goodwin could only withstand so much punishment. This was the case midway through the third round as Wilson was delivering another combination as Goodwin was pinned in the corner. After not being able to shield himself, the referee intervened and called the match in favor of Wilson by means of a TKO. Goodwin immediately took offense to this call, pleading he was still able to fight, but it was too late. Wilson improves his record to a perfect 9-0.
