Expect Delays This Weekend On I-66 East In Fairfax Due To VDOT Paving Operations
VDOT work crews will be closing multiple lanes of eastbound traffic on I-66 between Nutley Street and Gallows Road in Fairfax County.
FAIRAX, VA — Motorists traveling eastbound this weekend on I-66 in Fairfax County should consider taking an alternate route to avoid delays caused by planned roadwork.
Virginia Department of Transportation work crews are scheduled to close from four to three travel lanes in the Vienna area during daytime and nighttime hours on Friday and Saturday. In addition, traffic flow will be reduced to one lane for a period of time on both nights.
During these closures, VDOT will be conducting paving operations between Nutley Street and Gallows Road. Once this work is done, traffic will be shifted onto the new pavement located on the right side of the roadway.

The north and south ramps from Nutley Street to I-66 East will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday. Signs will direct travelers to detours.

Friday, Oct. 15
- 9 p.m. - One lane of traffic will closed on I-66 East between Nutley Street and Gallows Road.
- 10 p.m. - Two more lanes of I-66 East will be closed before Nutley Street, leaving just a single lane of traffic open.
- 10 p.m.-5 a.m. - Ramps from Nutley Street North and South to I-66 East will be closed. Motorists will be detoured I-66 West, exit to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road). From there, traffic will be directed to the ramp on the left to I-66 East
Saturday, Oct. 16
- 5 a.m. - Second lane will reopen.
- 8 a.m. - Third lane will reopen
- 8 a.m.-10 p.m. - A single lane of I-66 East will remain closed.
- 10 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane on I-66 East before Nutley Street.
- 10 p.m.-5 a.m. - Ramps from Nutley Street North and South to I-66 East are closed. Traffic will be detoured to Route I-66 West (Chain Bridge Road)
Sunday, Oct. 17
- 6 a.m.- One lane of I-66 East will reopen.
- 9 a.m.- All lanes of I-66 East will reopen.
In the case of inclement weather, the scheduled closures will be delayed to a later date.
This weekend's paving and traffic shifts are part of VDOT's ongoing Transform I-66 Outside the Beltway Project. The public can expect future closures and lane shifts along I-66 in both directions between Route 29 (Lee Highway) in Gainesville and the Capital Beltway/I-495
