FAIRFAX CITY, VA — IKEA will be opening a two new format stores in the Washington, D.C. area this summer, including one in Fairfax Corner.

IKEA's plan and order points are smaller stores dedicated to kitchen, bedroom and living room planning where you can find home furnishing advice and expertise.

The company has already opened plan and order point stores in Europe and Canada. In March, the company announced that it would be opening its first plan and order point store in the Washington, D.C. region at at Pentagon Centre in Arlington.

Founded in Sweden in 1943, the popular furniture, appliance and home furnishings retailer already has large format stores in Woodbridge at Potomac Mills and in College Park, Maryland.

The two new plan and order point stores will be located in Fairfax Corner and Gaithersburg, Maryland. They will be more conveniently located to better meet the needs of D.C. area customers and will focus on providing interior design planning with IKEA specialists, the company said.

“We’re excited to offer a new IKEA experience to our DC metro area customers with convenience in mind Whether you’re looking for inspiration, need help from an IKEA design specialist or simply want to pick up a piece of furniture that you purchased online, the IKEA Fairfax and Gaithersburg Plan & order point with Pick-up are even more accessible and meet our customers where they are and how they like to shop,” said Javier Quiñones, the CEO and chief sustainability officer of IKEA U.S., in a release.

IKEA Fairfax will occupy a 4,458 square-foot space located at 4206 Fairfax Corner Ave. West in Fairfax Corner. The location will be accessible by car via I-66, Route 5o, Route 29, and the Fairfax County Parkway. Customers can also take Fairfax Connector bus to the store.

Along with making plans to open new plan and order points like the ones in Arlington, Fairfax, and Gaithersburg, IKEA U.S. said it has made significant investments to improve its e-commerce offerings, including new IKEA family benefits and lower-priced shipping and delivery.
