Fairfax City residents and business owners are encouraged to take this opportunity to educate themselves, their households, and those in their place of business on what to do to prepare for tornadoes — and to make sure everyone receives emergency weather messages in the most effective way possible. Tornadoes occur every month of the year, but are most likely from April through September.

For the statewide tornado drill, the National Weather Service will send a voice broadcast to NOAA weather radios and local broadcasters around 9:45 a.m. March 16. Local radio stations, TV stations, and cable outlets will broadcast the test message via the Emergency Alert System (EAS).
Turn on, or tune in, around 9:40 a.m. March 16 and listen for the voice broadcast.
The Office of Emergency Management recommends everyone have a plan, know your location and surroundings, and have a way to receive notifications, review your plan, and know where to seek safe shelter when a tornado warning is issued.
