Labor Day 2019: What's Open, What's Closed In Fairfax City
Train routes, schools and government offices will be impacted by the 2019 Labor Day holiday weekend in and around Fairfax City.
FAIRFAX, VA — Labor Day represents one of the busier weekends of the summer, if not the entire year. It's one final chance for tourists to fill up the coffers, from the Outer Banks in North Carolina to Ocean City in Maryland. But for city and county governments, schools, and some businesses, Labor Day is a chance to hit the pause button.
Here are the openings and closings to know for Labor Day weekend in Fairfax City.
Fairfax City Offices: All city government offices are closed Sept. 2.

City of Fairfax Schools: Schools will be closed Aug. 30-Sept. 2.
Post Offices: Closed on Sept. 2.

State Courts: Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed on Sept. 2.
CUE Bus: Service will run on a Saturday schedule from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Metrorail: On Sept. 2, the Metro system will be open 8 a.m.-11 p.m. and operate on a Sunday schedule. Parking will be free at all Metro parking facilities, and off-peak fares will be in effect all day.
The six Yellow and Blue Line Metro stations south of Reagan National Airport are closed and are scheduled to reopen on Monday, Sept. 9. Until then, free shuttle buses are serving the closed stations. For more information, visit www.wmata.com/service/rail/PlatformProject.
Metrobus: Buses will operate on a Sunday schedule on Sept. 2. See bus timetables.
Historic Sites and Museums: The Fairfax Museum and Visitor Center will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Swimming Pools: The Old Town Square Splash Pad is open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Fairfax Pool is open 12-7 p.m., Mosby Woods Pool 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Villa Aquatic Club 12-8 p.m.
Libraries: The City of Fairfax Regional Library will be closed Sept. 2.
Grocery Stores: Wegman's and Safeway will be open 6 a.m. to midnight Sept. 2. Wegman's pharmacy will be open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Safeway's pharmacy will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Walmart also will be open regular hours.
Trash Collection: Curbside trash/recycling collection will not run Monday. Monday and Tuesday routes will be collected Tuesday, Sept. 3.p
Landfills/Recycling: The Property Yard Recycling Center, I-66 Transfer Station and I-95 Landfill will be closed Sept. 2. Each reopens at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
