Lamb Center, Wesley Housing Finalize Purchase Of Hy-Way Motel
The Lamb Center and Wesley Housing's plan to build 54 permanent supportive housing units near Fairfax Circle just took a big step forward.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Wesley Housing and The Lamb Center finalized the purchase of the Hy-Way Motel on Tuesday, as part of their plan to redevelop the property for permanent supportive housing, according to a post on the homeless day shelter's Facebook page.
"Over the next few days, you'll see some changes with the building beginning with a fence around the hotel and demolition in the next couple of months," the Facebook post says. "Stay Tuned! This is just the beginning!"
The Fairfax City Council unanimously approved the special use permit at its Dec. 12, 2022 meeting that would allow for the redevelopment of the hotel site, which is located at 9640 Fairfax Blvd.

Now that they have approval from the city, the Lamb Center and affordable housing developer Wesley Housing intend to construct a five-story building, with office space on the ground floor and 54 apartments on the remaining four floors.
Once construction is completed, the building will be the largest permanent supportive housing community in Northern Virginia and the first of its kind at that level of density.

The new permanent supportive housing units will be occupied by homeless people, mainly older adults, many with disabilities, who earn 15 percent or below of the Area Median Income ($14,999), according to a release.
Residents of the building will receive wrap-around supportive services onsite. Case managers will assist residents on securing income or work, as well as improving their mental and physical health, according to a release.
To help fund the project, The Lamb Center and Wesley Housing will be applying for Low-Income Housing Credits in 2023.
