FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Three Fairfax City residents were arrested for violating the city noise ordinance by playing loud music at the apartment where they live on Friday night.

City of Fairfax Police officers responded around 10:59 p.m. to an apartment in the 111000 block of Gainsborough Court for the report of loud music. Police informed the residents that their music was too loud and warned them they were violating the city's noise ordinance.

Officers returned to the same residence later that evening and determined that the same residents were in violation of the noise ordinance, according to police.

Officers issued Virginia Uniformed Summonses to 26-year-old Bharath Manjunathraju, 30-year-old Sushasini Chavan and 26-year-old Nidhi Somashekar for violating the city noise ordinance. They each have upcoming hearings to face the charges.

According to Fairfax City Ordinance 424, no one is allowed to use or play any sound creating device in the city that "disturbs the peace, quiet, and repose of a person or persons of ordinary sensibilities." Civic and/or charitable events that have a city license or permit are excluded from the ordinance.

As to how loud is too loud, music that is played at a volume so that it can be heard from one block away, about 300 feet, is prohibited.

"Furthermore, commencing from 10:00pm to 8:00am, all such devices shall be reduced in volume and prevented from disturbing the rest and quiet of the neighborhood, regardless of distance," the ordinance says.
