FAIRFAX, VA — A man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Saturday after being struck by a car on Fairfax County Parkway, according to posts on the Fairfax County Police Department's official Twitter account.

Officers were on the scene of the crash around 2:11 p.m. on Saturday at Fairfax County Parkway near Old Plains Road. The northbound lane of the parkway was closed temporarily at Rugby Road to allow detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit investigate scene. The roadway later reopened to traffic.

The driver of the striking vehicle remained at the scene of the crash.
