Maryland Man Arrested In DC For Robbery Of Fairfax Store: Police

Police arrested an 18-year-old Wednesday in connection with an armed robbery at a Shell gas station in Fairfax City.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Police arrested an 18-year-old Wednesday in connection with an armed robbery at a Shell gas station on Fairfax Boulevard (Route 50) in the city of Fairfax, according to the Fairfax City Police Department. The suspect, Matthew Joshua Suarez, 18, was taken into custody in D.C. with the assistance of the Metropolitan Police Department and extradited to Fairfax where he is being held in the Fairfax County Adult Dentention Center on no bond.

The suspect allegedly entered a convenience store at the Shell gas station at about 7:50 p.m. on Jan. 19 and attempted to buy a pack of cigarettes without providing identification. After the sale was denied, the suspect walked behind the counter and took the cigarettes, police said.

The suspect placed money on the counter and implied he had a firearm in his waistband as the clerk attempted to stop him, according to the police. No injuries were reported from the incident.

Suarez, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, was charged with one count of robbery.
