Memorial Day 2026: What’s Open, Closed Around Fairfax City

As Fairfax City celebrates Memorial Day, some government offices, public facilities and services will be closed or have modified hours.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Many government offices, courts, transit services and public facilities in and around Fairfax City will be closed or operating on modified schedules for Memorial Day on Monday, May 25.

Courts and DMV Select: Fairfax City courts and the city’s DMV Select office are closed Monday, May 25. (Fairfax, VA)

Fairfax City Public Schools: Fairfax City Schools operate through a partnership with Fairfax County Public Schools, and the FCPS 2025-26 calendar lists Monday, May 25, as the Memorial Day holiday. Trash pickup and recycling: There will be no trash or recycling collection Monday, May 25. Monday and Tuesday routes will be collected Tuesday, May 26. Yard waste collection may be delayed, and residents are asked to leave yard waste at the curb until collected. (Fairfax, VA)
