Motorcyclist Killed On I-495/Capital Beltway In Fairfax County: Police

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle that occurred last Friday morning on the Outer Loop of the Capital Beltway in Fairfax County, according to a release.

Troopers responded around 2:02 a.m., for the report of a single-vehicle crash on southbound I-495 near the Gallows Road exit.

Carlos Javier Velez Mantalvo, 25, of Orlando, Florida was traveling south on I-495 on his 2006 Honda CBR600 motorcycle, when he rapidly decelerated and lost control, and laid his motorcycle down in the roadway, according to state police. He then slid across the pavement away from the bike.

Mantavalo was taken to Fairfax Inova Hospital for treatment, but he later died from his injuries. A preliminary investigation revealed that he was wearing a seatbelt, according to state police.
