New Heaven and New Earth Church Holds Community Clean Up Initiative

Saturday, July 23rd - Members of New Heaven New Earth Church went out to make their local community a healthier, more beautiful place to live. On one of the hottest days of the year so far, teams are still gathered to descend upon parks in Alexandria, VA near the river for an afternoon of trash clean up and park beautification. Volunteers also handed out water to other park patrons to ensure that everyone stayed healthy and hydrated despite the heat. Saturday’s event was part of a new community clean up initiative planned by New Heaven and New Earth Church for the Summer of 2022.

New Heaven and New Earth Church congregations are based in Fairfax and Alexandria VA . Holding a deep conviction that communities of faith should love and serve their communities, they have made it their mission to not only make a positive impact themselves through public service, but to also encourage others to do the same.

But it’s not random, traditional volunteering that has the greatest effects. Rather, it is thoughtful and deliberate efforts that can maximize the benefit of community service. For example, New Heaven and New Earth Church made strategically positive impacts through a series of blood drives during the pandemic when the state was under a blood emergency and in need of convalescent plasma.

The church also held a community food drive with Resettling Afghan Refugees Together (RAFT) on behalf of Afghan refugees in the beginning of 2022. However, this culturally sensitive food drive was not held at the height of mainstream volunteerism and novelty before the holidays, but rather when it was needed most – in mid-January, as refugee families were really settling in and had burned through contributions from the year prior.

These two community projects are just a couple of examples of the thoughtfully planned volunteer work that New Heaven New Earth Church has accomplished. Recently commended by local government for having set a positive standard for community engagement, New Heaven New Earth Church believes that it is up to our individual faith, love, and personal effort to make positive changes in the world - but it starts first in your own neighborhood.
