One Dead In Smoking-Related House Fire: Officials

One person was killed and another injured in a house fire early Friday in Lees Corner. Officials say a person on oxygen was smoking in bed.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA—One person was killed and another injured in a house fire early Friday in the 3400 block of Cotton Top Court in the Lees Corner area of the county, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. Investigators say the fire was caused by someone on oxygen also smoking a cigarette in bed.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m., firefighters arrived at the scene and saw some coming from the second floor of the two-story, single-family home. The two occupants already had evacuated when emergency personnel entered the home and put out the fire.

Both people were taken to the hospital. One victim was released but the other person died Saturday. No injuries were reported. The home suffered nearly $19,000 in damage."
