Online Scams Bite Two Residents in Fairfax: Police
One woman was told she had gotten a job and the other was told she had received a student loan. But first, say Fairfax Police, money needed.

FAIRFAX, VA — There's a familiar disclaimer affixed to various titillating activities: "Do not try this at home." Well, here's a bit of advice based on Wednesday's Fairfax Police crime report: "Do not try this at home."
And beware of your computer.
To wit: on Tuesday afternoon a resident at the 11100 block of Gainsborough Court told police she responded to an online job advertisement. Presto! She was hired.

She also was told she would receive a check, and that she needed to deposit it in her bank account and after 24 hours withdraw the sum and deposit it in another bank account.
She did just that, and then realized the check was bogus.

Also on Tuesday, in the 4300 block of Bob Court, a resident told police she completed an online application for college financial aid, after which a man called her and told her to buy gift cards and give him the numbers for "loan insurance."
She did just that, and was unable to reach the man afterward.
Do not try this at home.
