Paper Or Plastic? Come July 2017, Only Paper For Yard Debris in Fairfax City
Fairfax County facilities made the call to nix plastic bags because yard debris is used to create mulch, and plastic degrades it.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Using plastic bags for yard debris will not be an option for city residents beginning July 2017.
According to a release from the city, the plan to accept only debris only in compostable paper bags was put on hold to provide a grace period to allow municipalities and residents in Fairfax County to adjust to the policy change.
Fairfax County facilities made the call to no longer accept plastic bags because yard debris is used to create mulch, and plastic bags degrade the quality of the mulch.
