Personal Property, Vehicle Taxes Due Wednesday in Fairfax

City Hall will extend hours Wednesday to 7 p.m.; late payments will incur 10 percent penalty plus interest.

FAIRFAX, VA — Wednesday is the deadline for city residents to play their personal property tax and vehicle license tax. Late payments are assessed a 10 percent penalty plus interest.

City Hall will extend its hours to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, and those paying in person must bring their entire bill.

Paying online is an option, as is using various drop-boxes at City Hall.

The 2016 personal property tax rate is $4.13 per $100 of assessed value. The state will pay 44 percent of the tax for the first $20,000 of a personal use vehicle assessed value. The tax reduction appears on tax bills as a credit. Both the personal property and the motor vehicle license tax must be paid to receive the city decal (shown above).

Decals will be mailed Oct. 19 and decal enforcement begins 15.
