Police: Arrest in Fairfax House Fire

Family displaced after fire was intentionally set, according to Fairfax fire officials.

The Fairfax City Fire Marshal and the police department have accused a young man of intentionally setting a fire in his home, along with other damage, in an incident Tuesday night.

Fire and rescue crews responded at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday to the home in the 10900 block of Fairchester Drive.

The fire was reported in the attic and in a bedroom at the rear of the house, according to a city release. Police claim the 19-year-old resident intentionally set the fire, along with breaking windows in the home and damaging a family member’s car in the driveway.

The suspect was transported to the detention center and was charged with arson of an occupied dwelling and with intentionally burning personal property, according to police.

There were no injuries from the fire. Damage is estimated at approximately $250,000.

The home was declared uninhabitable and three displaced family members are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
