William “Bud” Walker, a 15-year veteran of the force, was charged Wednesday with two counts of possession of child pornography, according to county police. Under the terms of his release Friday, he is forbidden from using computers or having contact with minors, WUSA-TV Channel 9 reported.
A Fairfax resident, Walker often appeared before the Washington area’s media as a public information officer to give updates on high-profile criminal cases. Shortly after Walker was released from jail Friday, Col. Edwin Roessler Jr., the chief of the Fairfax County police, accepted his resignation, effective immediately.

His next date in court is scheduled for June 17, according to radio station WTOP.
At a news conference Wednesday, Roessler said the department’s investigation had not found that Walker committed any crimes against children in the area. But detectives are continuing to gather evidence and additional charges are possible. The police have created a special hotline for the public to call in tips: (703) 246-7896.
