FAIRFAX CITY, VA — City of Fairfax's Board of Architectural Review will be considering a proposal Wednesday night to build a new Popeye's Restaurant at the site of the former Angelico's Pizza on Fairfax Boulevard.

The property, which is located at 10869 Fairfax Blvd., was purchased last September by Tahoora Foods. Although the site is zoned commercial retail and the vacant building could be repurposed for another restaurant or a convenience store, the owners wish to demolish the old structure and build a new restaurant with a drive-through window.

Tahoora has submitted a special-use permit to the city to allow it to operate the drive-through window. The owner is also seeking four special exceptions concerning onsite traffic flow, as well as setback and landscaping requirements.

In order for Tahoora to move forward with its plans, BAR will need to make a recommendation on the appropriateness of its architectural designs to the Fairfax City Council, which has already discussed the proposal during its Feb. 22 work session. BAR will consider the plan at its Tuesday night work session.

City residents will have an opportunity to comment on the proposal at future BAR and city council public hearings, although those have not been scheduled yet.
