Public Intoxication, Trespass Charges Filed Against Repeat Offender

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — City of Fairfax Police arrested Russell Trego, 48, of no fixed address, on the same charges two days in a row last weekend, according to the weekly crime report.

Court documents show that Trego has a long list of similar arrests on his record, stretching back to May 2023.

Officers responded around 1:09 p.m. Saturday for the report of a theft at the Wawa store at 9700 Fairfax Blvd. The person who reported the theft told police an unknown man had taken an alcoholic beverage from the store and left without paying.

After locating Trego nearby, officers arrested him and took him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where they charged him with petit larceny and public intoxication. Trego was then held on bond and released when he was deemed sober.

On Sunday, around 7:06 p.m., officers were called to the Ornery Beer Company at 3950 University Drive for a theft report. The person who called police said that a man entered the business, took food and left without paying.

The officers found Trego nearby and took him into custody. For the second day in a row, they charged him with petit larceny and public intoxication. He remained in custody until he was deemed sober.

This was not the first time Trego has faced misdemeanor charges. He has a long list of arrests stemming back to May 2023 in Vienna, Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax. In addition, he has a total of $100 in fines and $217 in court costs that are marked past due, according to court records.

  • May 22, 2023 - Trespass in Vienna; Aug. 7, 2023 court hearing. (Verdict: nolle prosequi), meaning the case was not prosecuted
  • Aug. 7, 2023 - Trespass after forbidden in Fairfax City; Oct. 26, 2023 court hearing (Verdict: nolle prosequi), meaning the case was not prosecuted
  • Aug. 7, 2023 - Intoxicated in public in Fairfax City; Oct. 26 court hearing (Verdict: Guilty. $25 fine and $91 court costs - past due.
  • Oct. 27, 2023 - Intoxicated in public in Fairfax City; Dec. 19, 2023 hearing (Verdict: Guilty in absentia; $75 fine and $126 court costs - past due).
  • Nov. 8, 2023 - Trespass after forbidden in Fairfax City; Dec. 14, 2023 hearing (Verdict: nolle prosequi)
  • Jan. 20, 2024 - Trespass after forbidden in Fairfax City; March 7, 2024 hearing date set.
  • Jan. 20, 2024 - Petit larceny in Fairfax City; March 7, 2024 hearing date set.
  • Feb. 8, 2024 - Intoxicated in public in Fairfax City; March 26, 2024 hearing date set.
