Save Our Butts - The Seat-quel
Independent Art House Movie Theatre trying to get help raising money to keep up with the big movie house competition.

Fairfax, VA – Cinema Arts Theatre, located at 9650-14 Main Street, Fairfax, VA, the only family-owned and operated movie theatre in the DC metro area, has started a KICKSTARTER campaign in order to raise $100,000 for 853 new seats. The seats will replace the theatre’s original seats with rockers .
The campaign was launched after an exhaustive study of customer preferences. Five different manufacturers’ chairs were exhibited at Cinema Arts so that customers could try them out. The customers chose the seating that they preferred and the selection was made. The customers also told us that they do NOT want reserved seating and they didn’t want the fancy, luxury lounge chairs that are seen in more and more movie theatres. The rockers that were selected will be utilized in all six theatres that comprise Cinema Arts.
Cinema Arts Theatre opened 17 years ago and continues to be known for its charm and film-loving atmosphere. Because it is a neighborhood theatre and not a Mega-Plex, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable about movies and will chat about films while serving a unique concession menu that includes granola, cheese and crackers, pastries, lattes, hummus with warm pita chips and the usual fantastic popcorn with real butter available for a topping (Old Bay is also available).

Aside from the delicious food offerings, Cinema Arts has remained true to its founding vision for the neighborhood movie house: show great foreign and independent films at reasonable prices. And, we include a “Senior Wednesday” for our older neighbors at a much-reduced price. We are a part of the community and that will never change.
The owner of Cinema Arts, Mark O’Meara, has been and continues to be an integral part of the personality of the theatre. He is known for his antics when introducing a movie or gathering opinions from the audience when a trailer has been shown. He said: “The whole point is to have a comfortable, friendly place to escape into another world while watching a movie.”

Being a small theatre operator in the land of giants like AMC, Regal, or Cinemark, has its challenges, but, says O’Meara “Cinema Arts has thrived by making sure everyone is provided a great presentation, friendly works, and most important, showing great films, that don’t play everywhere.”
So why new seats? Well, O’Meara says: “Our current seats are a bit long-in-the-tooth. It’s time to improve an important aspect of our operation. We are running this Kickstarter campaign to raise money because so many of our loyal customers told us to get new seats and they would help pay for them.”
