Scam Artist Hits Home Depot in Fairfax: Police
A man was returning a drain-cleaning machine he'd rented, and gave it to man he thought was an employee but wasn't, say Fairfax Police.

FAIRFAX, VA — A man who rented a drain-cleaning machine from the Home Depot in the 3200 block of Old Lee Highway returned it to the store Thursday night, according to Fairfax Police.

Seems while returning the machine, the man was approached by someone he believed to be a store employee, who took the cleaner and told him he'd meet him in back of the store.

One problem. The man wasn't a store employee, and he never showed up in back of the store.

10800 Block of Fairchester Drive – On December 15 at 9:18 PM officers investigating a report of a suspicious person in the area located a subject in a parked vehicle. It was subsequently determined that his vehicle had struck another parked vehicle in the area and that he was intoxicated. James Edward Bitner, 49, of 11182 Tattersall Trail Terrace, Oakton, was transported to the Adult Detention Center where he was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Main Street / Oak Street – On December 15 at 11:46 PM officers who had conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle determined that the driver was intoxicated. Rodrigo Alex Maldonado, 27, of 1108 Stevenson Court, Herndon, was transported to the Adult Detention Center where he was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and refusal of breath test. His bond was set at $1000.
