LEESBURG, VA—A dean at Douglass School has been arrested for assaulting a student last month, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. Ryan C. Fortenbaugh, 35, of Purcellville, was charged with assault and battery via a citizen-obtained arrest warrant. He was released on a summons.
On Sept. 5, a student was vaping with several other students in a bathroom of the school at 407 East Market Street. The student reported being restrained by Fortenbaugh and then assaulted. The dean has been on administrative leave from Douglas, "Loudoun County Public Schools' Center For Alternative Education," since the incident. A spokesperson for the school system did not immediately return a call for comment.
According to the school's website, Fortenbaugh became its Middle School Dean and Special Education Designee in June 2017. Before that and beginning in 2014, the Allentown, Pa., native led the Emotional Disabilities Program at Rock Ridge High School, 43460 Loudoun Reserve Drive.
