Lockdown At Fairfax Courthouse After Initial Report Of Shooting

Fairfax County Police said they believe the victim's injuries were caused by him jumping from a garage near the courthouse, not a shooting.

FAIRFAX, VA — The Fairfax County Judicial Center was locked down Tuesday afternoon after reports of a shooting in the parking garage.

About an hour after the incident, though, the Fairfax County Police Department said the person's injuries may have been caused by him jumping from the garage, not from a shooting.

"At this time, no evidence to indicate criminal activity," police said.

Around 4:30 p.m., the police department said officers were on the scene of a shooting in the 10600 block of Page Avenue in Fairfax near the courthouse complex. A man was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower body in a nearby parking garage, police said at the time.

The man was taken to the hospital with injuries considered life-threatening, police said.

When police believed they were investigating a shooting, people inside the Fairfax County Judicial Center were not allowed to leave. A judge interrupted a court proceeding inside the building to notify jurors of a shooting, a Washington Post reporter tweeted.

"I need you to stay here until it is safe for you to exit the building, and I don’t know how long that is going to be," the judge.

But Fairfax County police later said they believe the man's injuries were not caused by a gunshot.
