Unattended Candle Blamed For Starting Townhouse Fire In Fairfax

FAIRFAX, VA — An unattended candle was determined to be the cause of a fire that caused an estimated $15,000 in damage to a Fairfax area townhouse on Friday night, according to a post on the Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department's Twitter account. The fire was reported to be accidental in nature.

A smoke alarm alerted the occupants of the fire, which was located on the second floor of the apartment in the 9300 block of Lee Highway. No injuries were reported.

County fire and rescue units, as well as those from the City of Fairfax Fire Department, responded around 10:01 p.m., to the 9300 block of Lee Highway, according to the Twitter post.

After locating the small fire on the second floor, fire personnel quickly extinguished it, according to FCFRD.
