Snow Storm to Impact Fairfax Area

Latest forecast for Winter Storm Iola calls for a mess of snow and rain in the region, according to the National Weather Service.

Get the salt and shovels ready. A winter snowstorm headed for the Northeast could mean rain, ice and snow in Fairfax this weekend.

Winter Storm Iola was named Wednesday afternoon after storm warnings were issued in the Southwest, according to the Weather Channel.

Most of the weekend snow — if any — is predicted to fall between Friday night and Saturday morning.

Here’s what you can expect in the Fairfax area:

Friday: A chance of rain and sleet before midnight, then snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 29. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Saturday: Snow likely before 8am, then rain and snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 40. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
Saturday Night: A chance of rain and snow before 7pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
