Southwest Virginia Leads More Urban NoVA In New Coronavirus Cases
The Virginia Department of Health reported 1,114 new cases of the coronavirus and 16 new deaths on Friday.
VIRGINIA — The Virginia Department of Health reported 1,114 new cases of the coronavirus and 16 new deaths on Friday. The cumulative total of cases is 156,649, while 11,447 total hospitalizations and 3,344 deaths have been reported.
By region, the new cases on Friday include 309 in the southwest region, 226 in the central region, 222 in the northern region, 202 in the northwest region and 155 in the eastern region.
On Thursday, the health department said 689 cases should have been reported on Wednesday. A "surveillance system reporting issue" was cited as a reason for the delay.

Across Virginia, 2,219,510 PCR tests have been completed, an increase of 29,718 since Thursday. The statewide positive average of PCR tests stands at 4.8 percent as of Oct. 5. The southwest region's average of 6.3 percent is above the statewide average. Elsewhere in the state, the percent positive is 4.9 percent in the central region, 4.5 percent in the eastern region and 4.4 in the northern and northwest regions.
COVID-19 hospitalizations increased slightly from 933 to 963 since Thursday. That includes 250 in the central region, 219 in the northern region, 203 in the eastern region, 182 in the southwest region and 109 in the northwest region.

According to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association, the current hospitalizations, as of Friday, include 205 in the intensive care units and 87 on ventilators. Ventilator use stands at 22 percent among all Virginia hospital patients, and ICU occupancy is at 76 percent. There are no hospitals reporting difficulty obtaining personal protective equipment in the next 72 hours.
According to the association, 18,336 COVID-19 total patients have been discharged from hospitals as of Friday.

- Alexandria: 3,977 cases, 322 hospitalizations, 73 deaths; increase of 16 cases. Two hospitalizations removed
- Arlington County: 4,148 cases, 509 hospitalizations, 152 deaths; increase of 16 cases and one hospitalization
- Fairfax County: 21,736 cases, 2,186 hospitalizations, 598 deaths; increase of 104 cases, six hospitalizations and three deaths
- Fairfax City: 142 cases, 13 hospitalizations, eight deaths; increase of one case
- Falls Church: 73 cases, 13 hospitalizations, seven deaths; increase of one case
- Loudoun County: 7,137 cases, 444 hospitalizations, 128 deaths; increase of 27 cases, two hospitalizations and one death
- Manassas: 1,979 cases, 130 hospitalizations, 24 deaths; increase of nine cases
- Manassas Park: 624 cases, 56 hospitalizations, eight deaths; increase of three cases
- Prince William County: 13,024 cases, 941 hospitalizations, 213 deaths; increase of 45 cases, six hospitalizations and one death
- Fredericksburg: 563 cases, 50 hospitalizations, five deaths; increase of three cases
- Spotsylvania County: 2,231 cases, 137 hospitalizations, 46 deaths; increase of 14 cases
- Stafford County: 2,121 cases, 164 hospitalizations, 19 deaths; increase of 13 cases, two hospitalizations and one death
