FAIRFAX CITY, VA — City Council has set a date to discuss plans for a special election and hear public comment on replacing Fairfax Mayor Scott Silverthorne, who is expected to resign effective noon Thursday.
Silverthorne was arrested Aug. 4 after allegedly offering undercover detectives meth in exchange for sex at a Tysons Corner hotel, according to Fairfax County Police.
The City Council says it hopes to approve a date for the special election next Tuesday and then a closed meeting to discuss the possible appointment of an interim mayor.

According to the Washington Post, several residents expressed anger they weren't allowed to at least listen to the City Council's discussions.
When the meeting adjourned, shouts of "Shame on you!" reportedly were heard.
Council members have been decidedly tight-lipped about Silverthorne's arrest and what damage it potentially could do to the city's finely tuned image and reputation.
Next Tuesday's meeting is 7 p.m. in the City Hall Annex, Room 100.
