Susan Mullen To Begin New Role As Daniels Run ES Principal On Aug. 1

A former administrator and principal in Loudoun County Public Schools has been named the new principal at Daniels Run Elementary School.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Susan Mullen, an administrator and principal at Loudoun County Public Schools, was named the new principal of Daniels Run Elementary School. She will assume her new role on Aug. 1.

Fairfax County Public Schools Region 5 Assistant Superintendent Rebecca Baenig and City of Fairfax Superintendent Jeff Platenberg made the announcement during a virtual meeting to the DRES community on Tuesday.

“We are thrilled to have Ms. Susan Mullen join the City of Fairfax Schools community and we welcome her to Daniels Run Elementary School,” Platenberg said. “Ms. Mullen brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, and enthusiasm with her and we are excited to begin a new school year with such a talented leader.”

Prior to accepting the city school's offer to become the new DRES principal, Mullen had been an administrator at John W. Tolbert Jr. Elementary School since 2012 and that school's principal since 2016. A graduate of George Washington University, Mullen earned dual masters degrees in educational curriculum and instruction and education in leadership from Chapman University and George Mason University.

Mullen will succeed former DRES principal Chris Smith, who announced his departure in May to become the new principal at Katherine Johnson Middle School. Smith succeeds Tammy Sillipigni, who retired as the middle school's principal in June.
