FAIRFAX CITY, VA — A business will soon be open in the retail section of the Scout on the Circle Apartments complex along Fairfax Boulevard, offering a place to hang out, enjoy a drink, and listen to music.

Located near the Giant grocery store, TeaDM will be bringing bubble tea, smoothies, and other refreshing drinks along with electronic dance music to its Fairfax City customers.

"Tea is really healthy," said owner Jay Tran. "We offer a lot of like oolong tea and our green tea. We do a lot of matcha tea, which is good for your health. We also have fresh-fruit fruit smoothies that are refreshing for your family. We have mango, cherry, and honeydew."

TeaDM also specializes in Sea Salt Coffee, which is a strong Vietnamese coffee blended with condensed milk and sea salt cream.

Another feature of Tran's tea shops is that customers listen to electronic dance music (EDM) while waiting for their drinks to be made. The shop's name reflects that aspect of the business, with TeaDM sounding like EDM.

"We play EDM as a background, so it's a hangout or cool place for everybody," he said.

Tran, who also owns the TeaDM Lounge at Falls Church's Eden Center and TeaDM Mini in the Vienna Shopping Center, has a slightly different concept for the new Fairfax shop.

"For this location, we focused on a healthy menu," Tran said. "We offer non-dairy products. In Fairfax, we're going to offer a special matcha smoothie in the morning."

Tran launched his first Falls Church location in September 2016 and then expanded to Vienna in 2019. The following year, he relocated his first shop to a larger space in the Eden Center. Plans for further expansions were put on hold due to COVID-19, but Tran was happy to say that both of his shops remained open throughout the pandemic.

"We never closed a day," he said. "We were open from Jan. 24 until now."

Tran used to live in Fairfax and has been wanting to open a business in the city for years.

"I love Fairfax," he said. "I moved to Annandale probably about seven years ago, but I was always looking for a location in Fairfax to open one. A lot of good things are going on in Fairfax, which is why I chose this location."

The Fairfax location is scheduled to undergo its final inspection this week. Tran is planning a soft launch next week followed by a grand opening before the end of the month.
