FAIRFAX CITY, VA — A 31-year-old man is facing a malicious wounding charge after he struck a grocery store employee in the face with a shopping cart on Friday, according to the City of Fairfax Police.

Officers responded to the Safeway located at 10350 Willard Way for the report of an employee being assaulted. Police determined that a man threw a shopping cart at the victim following an argument. The cart struck the victim in the face, and the man fled the area. The victim declined medical treatment, according to police.

Police located the suspect, whom they identified as Javonne Simms of no fixed address, and arrested him. Simms was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was charged with one count of malicious wounding, one count of assault on law enforcement, and one count of obstruction of justice. Simms was held without bond.
