University Drive Goes on 'Road Diet' in Fairfax

The new traffic pattern is between Armstrong Street and South Street, and provides new paths for bicyclists and less overall congestion.

FAIRFAX, VA — There's a nifty new traffic pattern on University Drive between Armstrong Street and South Street because of the newly implemented road diet.

The road diet modified the roadway from four lanes (two in each direction) to three lanes (one in each direction plus a center two-way turn lane) and added bicycle lanes on both sides of the road.

The purpose of the project is to provide improved facilities and connectivity for bicyclists and calm traffic on University Drive.
