University Expands its Mission in the Global Bistro

Fairfax, VA - Virginia International University (VIU) is a private non-profit institution with a mission of making quality education accessible to diverse students. Recently VIU celebrated the Grand Opening of Global Bistro, fast-casual restaurant serving creative meals inspired by international flavors to VIU students and local community.

For over 19 years, VIU has welcomed thousands of domestic and international students from over 100 countries drawn to the university by its unique emphasis on diversity, generous scholarships, and hands-on undergraduate, graduate and continuing education programs with the focus on global careers. In October 2017, the university expanded its Fairfax campus to include a fast-casual restaurant serving internationally-inspired meals for everyone to enjoy.

Global Bistro Grand Opening and Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony took place on October 24, 2017. It was attended by Virginia State Senator Chap Petersen, former Mayor of Alexandria, Mr. William D. Euille, Deloitte Director of Federal Government Affairs, Mr. Tom Davis, and other distinguished guests from local government and the business community. The theme of embracing cultural diversity at VIU and in Northern Virginia region echoed in the comments made by the guest speakers Mr. Davis and Senator Petersen who talked about the importance of creating global citizens by providing higher education to American and international students.

“Entering into the realm of offering our students, staff, and the public a place where diverse cultures can come together peacefully to enjoy inspired cuisine only supports our belief that over food increased dialogue and cultural understanding can happen,” said Dr. Isa Sarac, VIU President. The pleasing thing about Global Bistro is that diners can order classic favorites including homemade soups and salads or customize their orders per their taste preferences choosing from wide variety of ingredients including vegetarian and halal options.

Global Bistro is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and on Saturdays from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM. It is located at 4401, Village Drive, Fairfax, VA, 22030. The menu is available at www.myglobalbistro.com/menu.
